Three Simple Tips to Boost Your Immunity and Stay Healthy This Winter: Part 2

So if you were here on Monday you checked out Three Simple Tips to Boost Your Immunity and Stay Healthy This Winter: Part 1.

If not — I’ll quickly fill you in — I personally don’t feel like getting sick this winter (looking like this poor girl in the picture right here). I’m not getting a flu shot and I work around children on a daily basis — with these things in mind I MUST make sure that I am doing everything with my nutrition and supplements to make sure I don’t get sick.

Here are 3 tips to Boost Your Immunity through your Nutrition and Diet:

Tip #1 — Eat LOTS and LOTS of Vegetables

Fresh fruits and veggies have TONS of benefits for our body. Loading up on blueberries (filled with antioxidants) and green rich colored vegetables will give our body the nutrients it needs to fight off colds and other germs. If you only eat processed foods your body will not have all the nutrients it needs to keep your immune system strong.

Tip # 2 — Keep your Digestive System Clean

Not trying to be gross here — but your digestive system contains up to 70% of your body’s immune cells –  so if your gut isn’t healthy — you aren’t going to be healthy. How do you keep your digestive system clean? Make sure you have probiotics in your diet. How? Yogurt is a GREAT source of probiotics (however some yogurts are high in sugar). Another source? Take a probiotic supplement — this will ensure that your body has enough of the good stuff to keep your stuff clean and healthy.

Tip #3 — Take Your Vitamins

Now is the time of year to make sure that you are taking your vitamins EVERYDAY — without fail. What to take? A multivitamin is important – but you may need to add some vitamin D. Why? Ensuring your body has enough vitamin D ensures the proper function of our T cells (a key component in our immune system). The best source of Vitamin D is the sun – but if your schedule is anything like mine there is no way for you to spend time outside between 10 and 2 to get that Vitamin D. So — the next best bet? A vitamin D supplement!

These three quick tips will help you fight off colds and flus this winter — just make sure you combine them with part 1 — otherwise you just may be sniffing and sneezing your way through to next summer.

What do YOU do to avoid getting sick? I’d LOVE to know if there are any more tips that I am missing!!! Make sure to leave a comment below!

It’s not often spoke about but, vitamin D is a great supplement to take as proper supplementation prevents you from feeling ill as frequent, especially if you are prone to a lot of allergies. If you have sufficient amounts of vitamin D in your diet, you are less prone to illness than you would normally be.
