I don’t know about you — but I DON’T want to get sick this winter. Not only do I NOT want to get sick — I’m determined to avoid getting the flu — WITHOUT getting my flu shot.
Yes — I said it — no flu shot for this girl. It may seen like a crazy idea, but the ONE and ONLY winter I DID get a flu shot – I got violently sick ALL WINTER LONG.
Luckily for me there are many ways for me to keep my immune system strong and make sure I have a healthy winter.
Here are 3 Tips for Avoiding the Flu this Winter without doing anything to change your regular routines.
Tip #1 — Get Plenty of Fluids
You only ever hear that term when you actually get sick — however — making sure you stay hydrated all winter long is important to keeping your body healthy. Drinking enough water will keep your cells hydrated — keeping your body’s first line of defense – the mucous membranes — healthy and strong to fight colds all winter long.
Tip #2 — Get Some Rest
We tend to keep going and going and going and going — never giving ourselves a minute to recover. This winter make sure you get some rest. Sleep deprivation makes your cells more susceptible to infections as they aren’t strong enough to fight off bacteria — exercising on a regular basis, going to bed a reasonable hour will help ensure your body is strong every day.
Tip #3 — Wash Your Hands OFTEN!
It may seem to be common sense to wash your hands with soap regularly but somehow this simple task can still slip our minds. Make sure you are washing your hands WITH soap as often as possible — if not those nasty germs will not only get in your food but they will spread all over your house!
These three simple tips can help you avoid the flu this winter — even without a flu shot. Most of them seem like a no-brainer – but we all need a little refresher course some days on how to stay healthy. Not to mention that sometimes we just simply forget to do the simple stuff.
However — this is NOT all that I am going to be doing this winter to avoid getting sick. Check back later this week for some more tips – what herbs and vitamins I’m loading up on and which ones I’m avoiding – and what color my plate is going to be every time I sit down to eat — to make sure that YOU don’t get sick either!

It seems that we only worry about being sick when we actually do come down with a bug. These tips are great for prevention.
Kudos to you for not giving in to Big Pharma and getting a flu shot! I’ve heard too many horrific stories that have influenced my decision to never get one. Thing is, “they” say that this year’s flu shot only works against flu bugs of the years past. So injection of something that may not only be harmful, but is totally useless against new flus, is not for me either! I believe it only suppresses the immune system even more.

No more flu shots for this girl too!!!! I am a very healthy person that does not get sick very often. If I do catch a cold, I am done with it in a couple of days.
I have received the flu shot a total of 3 times during the fall season and EACH TIME around the end of Dec. or 1st part of Jan. I get terribly sick with what I call “The Creepy Crud”. This is a combination of sinus/chest infection that lasts for almost 3 weeks. I get so sick that I have to miss work, get a shot or pills from the doctor, use every kind of over-the-counter medicine you can think of and stay in bed. I do not get a sore throat and have no fever with it. Since this same “crud” has appeared each time I have taken the shot, I am convinced there is something to it.
I took the shot this year because my employer gave us a choice: get the shot or wear a mask during flu season. Who wants to go around wearing a mask? Well, next year I will be wearing one! I believe that some peoples’ (like mine) immune systems are fine wihout it. It’s like my system goes full blown into this “crud” when I catch a simple cold.
I appreciate your suggestions and I wish more people would speak out about their experiences with the flu shot!!!
