Take a Walk on the Wild Side – Eat Bison for a Flat Stomach

Tired of eating chicken, turkey, or beef every day as your staple meat selection?  Never fear…Bison is here!!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my chicken, turkey and beef – however, it is nice to switch it up every once in a while. I tried my first Bison Burger a few weeks ago, purchasing it after the recommendation of a friend who works at the local Vitamin store – who said they were delicious – and they were!

Honestly – it really didn’t taste much different from a regular beef burger.  It wasn’t as juicy, but just as good – especially with the right seasoning and a bit of spinach salad on the side.

So what’s the beef?

Bison is a wild game meat and is a GREAT source of protein, as a meat alternative.

The USDA has found that bison is lower in cholesterol, calories and unhealthy fat when compared to beef, chicken and pork.  Not only is bison high in protein, but its also a great source of iron and Vitamin B12, zinc, phosporus, and niacin – more nutrients that are essential for weight loss and muscle buidling when compared to any other meat. The iron and vitamin B in bison is great for women who are trying lose weight and build muscle.

The benefits of bison meat don’t end there. Since bison is a primarily grass fed animal, researchers have found that bison meat has high levels of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and healthy fats.  Having both healthy fats and CLA in your diet has been shown to reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes, and hear disease.  Also, since bison is a ‘wild game’ they are free of hormones or steroids, that most cattle are pumped with to make them ‘beefier’.

Honestly, when I tried the bison burger last week – it tasted great! Plus, knowing I was getting these benefits made it taste THAT much better! So next time you’re trying to decide what meat to cook while on your flat stomach diet – take a walk on the wild side and try BISON!
